Bringing mining into the water reform fold

Waterlines: mining report coverThe National Water Commission today called for mining activities to be incorporated into water access and planning frameworks that are compliant with the National Water Initiative.
Releasing a major report and position statement on mining and water issues, Commission CEO Ken Matthews said, 'The National Water Commission takes the view that mining activities should operate under the same rules as other water users.

It is interesting that Farmers World Wide feel they are under attack that Mines seem to have precedent water rights over this important agriculture Industry.
Past mistakes were made however sustainable farming is being practiced every day!
It is apparent that there are two many Government departments involved and no one knows who the correct monitoring dept is! Therefor no real environmental monitoring is occurring. As long as the reports are sent in by the mines.
Is the every day person expected to have the knowledge or should they expect that their rights are protected!
